Sadio Sinks Spurs and Seduces Anfield

Liverpool 2, Tottenham Hotspur 0.  By Umarah Naz.  It seems fitting with Valentine’s Day around the corner that Liverpool have been reunited with their true love. Of course, I’m talking about Sadio Mané. Embed from Getty Images He has proven to be the heartbeat of the club this season, and his absence last month saw Liverpool’s pulse fall away with their title and cup dreams dying a cruel death. A top four berth is still very much alive for the Reds but the winless run needed to stop. And what better club to do it against then one of your continue reading

After a tough week, Liverpool have the task of travelling to North London on Saturday lunchtime to take on Tottenham Hotspur in a difficult league encounter. This article looks that challenge, and how I see the game panning out. After the last league match, Liverpool need to put in a strong performance so fans can reinstall their trust in the league campaign. Some fans comments on social media after the Burnley game would have you believe that relegation was imminent. Tottenham 0, Liverpool 0 - LFC Player Ratings & Tactics

Tottenham Hotspur 0, Liverpool 0 White Hart Lane, London (35,962) Player Ratings Simon Mignolet – 7.5 Made some good saves at vital times. As much as Liverpool’s new system worked for Klopp, if it wasn’t for Mignolet they could have come away with nothing from his opening game. Saves from N’Jie & Kane in the first half were particularly notable. The first a reaction save with his right glove, and the second a stop with feet. Nathaniel Clyne – 6 Prefers being in a back four rather than a wing-back in a back five, and this showed as he returned continue reading

Can now be classed as a central defender, such is his proficiency in the position, but looked equally at continue reading

Tottenham 0, Liverpool 3 - LFC Tactics & Player Ratings

Tottenham Hotspur 0, Liverpool 3 White Hart Lane, London (36,130) Liverpool scorers: Sterling (8′), Gerrard (pen 49′), Moreno (60′) Tactics The introduction of a second striker – Mario Balotelli – saw Liverpool revert to the diamond formation which was successful last season. The main difference this campaign is that new full-backs Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno seem well suited a system which relies heavily on them to provide both width and defensive solidity. 1st Half Formation The prime example of this was Alberto Moreno’s excellent goal. He won the ball back just inside his own half before sprinting down the left continue reading

Got his body behind a few swerving long range efforts, particularly one free kick from Bale, which other ‘keepers have struggled with this season. Glen Johnson – 5 Was poor with his marking at set pieces and sloppy in attack. Got in one good block on a Sigurdsson shot which would have gone in, but didn’t have his best game overall.
