The first ever Kop Left Player of the Season award was won by Philippe Coutinho back in the 2012/13 season. Since then the ratings system has been changed slightly to include a decimal point, effectively making it a score out of 20 rather than 10. Luis Suarez was unsurprisingly the best player in the 2013/14 season, and his impressive displays saw him earn a transfer to Barcelona, taking his place amongst the best players in the world. FC Basel 1, Liverpool 0  St. Jakob-Park (36,000) FC Basel scorer: Streller (50′) Tactics Liverpool lined up with something resembling a 4-4-1-1 in defence, and a 4-2-4 in attack. Philippe Coutinho played off Mario Balotelli up front, with Sterling and Markovic joining in on the wings but also covering back in defence. Jordan Henderson was slightly more advanced than Steven Gerrard in the midfield pairing. The full-backs, especially Manquillo bombed forward when the opportunity arose. Liverpool 2, Southampton 1 Anfield, Liverpool (44,736) Liverpool scorers: Sterling (23′), Sturridge (79′) Southampton scorer: Clyne (56′) Tactics Brendan Rodgers sent his Liverpool side out in the same shape we saw in the final pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool 4, Borussia Dortmund 0 Anfield, Liverpool (43,980) Liverpool scorers: Sturridge (10′), Lovren (13′), Coutinho (49′), Henderson (61′) Liverpool easily dispatched a below par Borussia Dortmund side at Anfield, in their last pre-season game of the summer. The game saw Anfield debuts for a number of players, and gave fans the opportunity to see new signings Dejan Lovren and Javier Manquillo in a Liverpool shirt for the first time.
