Liverpool's Premier League Top 4 Hopes Hang in the Balance

Liverpool have just four games left to play this season. Arsenal have seven, while both Manchester clubs have six. Arsene Wenger’s side are on a high after progressing to the FA Cup final, and with 21 points up for grabs in their remaining games they could do what the Gunners have done since 1998 and qualify for the Champions League. During this run, however, they have to play Manchester United, so from Liverpool’s point of view there’s at least the a guarantee that one of these clubs will drop points. Jurgen Klopp is expecting a different Manchester United side the the one which parked the bus at Anfield earlier in the season, and he says a big reason for their improvement is the introduction of the “world class” Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The former Shakhtar player was courted by Liverpool before he joined Klopp’s Dortmund in 2013, and despite being up and down under the management of the man who signed him, he returned to top form under Klopp’s replacement Thomas Tuchel. Liverpool Tactical Overview & Analysis of Crystal Palace 1, Liverpool 2

Since the return of Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool have been playing with a similar formation, and one which only changes subtly due to the personnel in it. Prior to the English striker’s return, Roberto Firmino had replaced Christian Benteke as the striker as Jurgen Klopp sought more movement up front, both on and off the ball. Firmino offers pressing from the front – a prerequisite in Klopp’s system – as well as being more mobile in attack. The Brazilian showed surprisingly good hold-up play, outshining Benteke even in this area, while also being able to run into the channels, play on continue reading
