Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet – 6
Conceded 5 but not helped by those in front of him. Could have done better for a couple of the goals and his kicking wasn’t the best at times.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 3
Will learn a lot from the game. Committed in the challenge too early and was given a torrid time by Benjamin Mendy.

Joel Matip – 3
He’s the best defender at the club but didn’t show that here. Some good moments on the ball but part of one of the most ragged LFC defences of Klopp’s reign.

Ragnar Klavan – 2
Looked uncomfortable throughout. Hesitated on the ball to let Jesus in behind him.

Alberto Moreno – 6
Not as bad as the others but not good either.

Jordan Henderson – 2
His protection of the defence was non-existent. Made a poor pass forward which was intercepted by Fernandinho, and sprinted of his position once the ball was lost providing the space for the Brazilian to pass through.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 2
Muscled off the ball by Fernandinho for the opener. Did nothing else. Had fewer touches of the ball than Mignolet for the second time this season.

Emre Can – 3
Not as bad as the other midfielders, but still bad.

Mohamed Salah – 5
Arrived in good positions, made several good runs, but was very wasteful with his final pass or shot

Roberto Firmino – 5
Held the ball up well prior to the sending off. Couldn’t get into the game after that.

Sadio Mane – 5
Sent off for a dangerous high boot which caught City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, in the jaw. Should perhaps have gone for the ball with his head, which may then have seen the red card go the other way. Had previously created the best chance of the game when he played Salah in.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – N/A
Not the best situation to make a debut. Couldn’t influence the game at all.

Dominic Solanke – N/A

James Milner – N/A
