Loris Karius – 5
Uncomfortable on the ball and this led to long hoofs up-field which was not what the manager wanted from him. Good clearing punch in the first half. Little else to do.
Joe Gomez – 8.5
Excellent agains Alexis Sanchez, making numerous defensive blocks and tackles. Assists the opener with a pinpoint left-footed cross from the right.
Joel Matip – 7.5
Good clearing header from corner led to Salah goal. Not as involved on the defensive side as others were because he didn’t need to be.
Dejan Lovren – 8.5
The stats won’t show many duels won, which is because he was already in the position to deal with threats before they emerged. One of his best performances, and kept Welbeck quiet.
Alberto Moreno – 8.5
Like Lovren, one of his best performances in the Liverpool shirt. Great pace going forward and was less reckless when recovering in defence.
Jordan Henderson – 7.5
Some sloppy passing and still came in below 80% accuracy, but he was important for the team holding their shampe mentally as well as physically. Head-butts Salah during the Egyptians goal celebrations to liven it up a bit on that side of things.
*Emre Can – 9
The driving force of the Liverpool team. Carries the ball forward with great determination and skill, and is able to get his head up once there. An all-action performance.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 8.5
Not quite at Can’s level, but showed similar qualities and is now much better than he was at the start of the season.
Mohamed Salah – 8
Missed a few good chances but made no mistake when sprinting through to find himself one-on-one against Cech.
Roberto Firmino – 8.5
The glue which holds everything together. Instrumental in the middle of the park and was even deeper than the midfielders at times as he worked tirelessly to make things happen. Scored the opener and assisted Mane’s effort.
Sadio Mane – 9
Another outstanding display from Liverpool’s best player at the start of this season. Scored an excellent goal cutting in from the left.
Daniel Sturridge – 7.5
Did little other than score. Which is enough.
James Milner – N/A
Ragnar Klavan – N/A
