Simon Mignolet – 6.5
Made one save, had little to do. Decent command of area to sweep up loose balls. Couple of shaky moments under high ones.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Tried another free kick but hit the wall. Motored up and down the right flank before going off injured.
Joel Matip – 7
Generally good, carried the ball out well and look composed in defence. But gave the ball away once in a dangerous position — luckily not punished.
Dejan Lovren – 5.5
Still struggled to cope, especially once Hoffenheim switched to a back for and were more attacking. Gave the ball away for first and was beaten for second.
Alberto Moreno – 6.5
Offered a pacy attacking option down the left. Overlapped and occasionally looked to come inside.
Jordan Henderson – 7
Looked to get forward and press more than usual which meant he sometimes left the back four exposed. Good high pressing led to assist for 4th goal.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 6.5
Much more involved than he has been lately. Still gave the ball away several times though.
Emre Can – 8
A driving force. Two goals and a relentless hour of midfield battling.
Mohamed Salah – 7
Scored his first goal at Anfield. A threat to the opposition even when dormant.
*Roberto Firmino – 8.5
Created chances, held the ball up, showed great skill. Assist & goal.
Sadio Mane – 8
Yet again one of Liverpool’s best players. Pace, trickery, skills and an assist.
Joe Gomez – 5.5
Not as effective as Trent, struggled with Kramaric.
James Milner – 6.5
Shored up midfield late on.
Ragnar Klavan – N/A
Liverpool preyed on Hoffenheim’s back three, using Firmino, Mane, Salah, plus the midfield support from Can to win the game within 25 minutes.
The opposition switched to a back four and the team struggled to cope towards the end of the second half, but they recovered after half time going on to score again.
