Player Ratings

Brad Jones – 6
A reasonable performance from Liverpool’s second choice keeper. Commands his area better than Mignolet, but still prone to the odd wayward kick out.

Jon Flanagan – 5.5
Found himself in attacking positions quite regularly but failed to deliver. Lost Podolski for Arsenal’s second, but still a decent performance from the right back who switched to the left later in the game.

Martin Skrtel – 6

Daniel Agger – 5.5
Good in possession but exposed for pace at Arsenal’s second goal. You wouldn’t expect him to keep up with Oxlade-Chamberlain, but he was nowhere near him.

Aly Cissokho – 5.5
Gave the ball away cheaply when the side were attacking from a corner early in the game. The worst passer in Liverpool’s back four, but defends well.

*Steven Gerrard – 7.5
Another excellent performance from Gerrard playing deep in midfield. Completed 11 of 15 long balls, and made 3 key passes. Scored the penalty by sending Fabianski the wrong way.

Joe Allen – 5.5
Didn’t offer much in attack and isn’t as physical as Henderson in defence. Can be good on the ball and get out of tight situations well, but he needs to be more productive in both attack and defence.

Philippe Coutinho – 5.5
Struggled to make anything happen today, but still managed a couple of really good through balls.

Luis Suarez – 6.5
Still searching for a goal and looks to be trying too hard at times. Sometimes gifted the ball to his marker, but still showed glimpses of brilliance, forcing saves from Fabianski in the Arsenal goal. Won Liverpool’s penalty, and was fouled by Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area for what should have been a second spot kick.

Daniel Sturridge – 5.5
On another day he could have had three goals, and today he should have had at least one. Had two chances early on in the game, and then another later on where he tried to take the ball around Fabianski but the goalkeeper got his hand to the ball.

Raheem Sterling – 7.5
A real shining light in Liverpool’s team yet again. Full of tricks and managed to take the ball around the opposition even when they were doubling up on him. Had an excellent dribble into the area around Arsenal’s right back and a covering player, but tripped up just before the final ball.

SUBSTITUTES

Jordan Henderson – 5.5
Replaced Cissokho as Sterling moved to right back with Flanagan going left. Looked out of sorts and wasted a few passes.
