Swansea 2, Liverpool 2
Liberty Stadium, Swansea (Att: 20,752)
Liverpool Scorers: Sturridge (4), Moses (36)
22 Simon Mignolet – 7
Made some good saves and was more commanding in the area than usual.
47 Andre Wisdom – 6
Did a good job but doesn’t offer much in an attacking sense compared to Glen Johnson.
*37 Martin Skrtel – 7.5
Another good performance from the centre back, made some great tackles and clearances, one in particular on Bony which saved a goal. Performed a good body slam on Michu, which adds 0.5 to his player rating. Not without fault, but did well in the circumstances.
17 Mamadou Sakho – 6
Made a few mistimed lunges coming into the tackle, and was wrong footed for the first Swansea goal. Was perhaps too over-enthusiastic on his debut, but made several good clearing headers.
3 Jose Enrique – 6
Made some good defensive contributions but can often make the wrong decisions in possession. Put the debutant Sakho under unnecessary pressure on numerous occasions.
21 Lucas – 6.5
Controls the game well in defence and attack, and links up well with Coutinho and Gerrard.
8 Steven Gerrard – 6.5
Didn’t have the impact on the game he would have liked, but did a good job in the midfield as usual.
14 Jordan Henderson – 6.5
Ran tirelessly up and down the right hand side, helping out in defence and linking up play going forward.
10 Philippe Coutinho – 7.5
Looked back to his best before being injured and substituted in the second half. Liverpool couldn’t keep the ball once he went off.
12 Victor Moses – 7
A great debut from the winger on loan from Chelsea. Faded in the second half but troubled the Swansea defence in the first and scored with a great right footed strike from just outside the area after intercepting from Jonjo Shelvey.
15 Daniel Sturridge – 7
A real poachers effort gave Liverpool their first goal, which made the game 1-1. He anticipated a back pass from Jonjo Shelvey and strick past Vorm with a first time left foot shot.
9 Iago Aspas – 5.5
Couldn’t get into the game in defence or attack. Struggled to keep possession for his side after coming on for the injured Coutinho.
4 Kolo Toure – N/A
Came on for Andre Wisdom at right back.
31 Raheem Sterling – 6
Was brought on for Victor Moses late on in the game and troubled the defence. One of the few Liverpool attacking players who kept the ball away from the opposition in the second half.
The shape of the side was similar to the formations used since the start of the season, but the introduction of Victor Moses gave the side a different dimension out wide, as well as allowing Coutinho to move into the middle.
Lucas and Gerrard held their ground for much of the game, with less adventure being shown by the full backs, which was maybe down to limited personnel rather than a tactical decision.
Coutinho looked for passes all over the pitch, and Sturridge also dropped deep to receive the ball at times. Moses contributed in defence down the left, but was very much an attacking left sided forward when the team had the ball.
