Joe Cole scores Liverpool's second goal at home to Young Boys
Joe Cole celebrates scoring Liverpool’s second goal, which in the end wasn’t enough to get the win.

Pepe Reina – 6
Was he at fault for the second goal? Opinion is divided but it looked like he should have done better. Made some routine saves throughout the game and punched the odd cross away.

Andre Wisdom – n/a
Substituted early on after he appeared to pick up an injury.

Martin Skrtel – 7
Looked commanding at the back and like a stand out player who is not normally part of this second string group of players.

Jamie Carragher – 6
Played the odd dodgy pass back to Reina but guided the inexperienced left back Downing defensively.

Stewart Downing – 6

Nuri Sahin – 6

Suso – 7
Showed some good touches. Very comfortable taking possession in any situation and was perhaps withdrawn too early.

Jordan Henderson – 5
Was shunted back to right back when Wisdom went off, and struggled. Could have done better defending Young Boys’ first goal and looked lost when going forward down the right.

*Joe Cole – 7
Made the odd sloppy pass, and expected people to make runs they didn’t when playing through balls, which showed his rustiness  Despite this he was one of Liverpool’s best performers on the night, setting up the first goal and scoring the second.

Jonjo Shelvey – 6
Headed in Cole’s cross and showed some nice touches in attack. Is better in midfield where he can initiate attacks and hassle in defence.

Oussama Assaidi – 6
Tricky and quick but hasn’t showed much in the way of a final product. Would probably be better playing with a centre forward in the middle.

Steven Gerrard – 6
Came on early on for Wisdom. Delivered some good set pieces and got stuck in in midfield.

Luis Suarez – n/a

Raheem Sterling – n/a
